Tony Watt, who completed his contentious return to Fir Park last week, appears eager to succeed at Motherwell, according to Stephen O’Donnell.
One year after leaving the team and stirring up supporters by celebrating his first United goal in front of them, the striker has agreed to a season-long loan from Dundee United, bringing him back to ML1.
In Sunday’s 1-0 Premier Sports Cup semifinal victory over Kilmarnock, Watt made his debut. He entered the game as a second-half substitute and received mostly favorable feedback from the crowd.
Additionally, O’Donnell, a teammate, asserts that the 30-year-old is motivated to succeed in his second stint. Playing with Watt in his prior tenure, O’Donnell stated: “Players returning can elicit differing reactions, but Tony is definitely a talented player.
Although there has been some controversy in his career, Tony Watt is a good player who has won league titles and competed in the Champions League. If he can return to the Tony Watt we had when he was here previously, we will have a fantastic player.
“I hope that turns out to be such. He appears to be hungry and eager to be here, which is a positive beginning. You can overlook anything else.
In advance of Sunday’s match against Hearts, manager Stuart Kettlewell believes there is still more to come from Watt, who made his debut to a resounding cheer from the majority of the Fir Park supporters.
“I’m delighted with that,” he stated. Although I don’t think it would have changed him in any way, I have heard that he received a great response once he warmed up.
They will be aware of his skill as a player and his excellent track record of supporting the team. That’s his objective when he returns, but I felt he gave it his all when he appeared.
“The supporters were amazing for him, but he will get sharper and more dangerous. Everything we do begins with his declaration that he would give everything.
