After being shot by police officers who were responding to a report of an assault by the man’s 33-year-old wife at the aforementioned residence, 32-year-old Jermaine Haynes, a construction worker from Little Diamond Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, is currently in the hospital as an alleged domestic violence offender.
After the report was sent to the Operations Room of Regional Division 4’B, two police constables carrying 9mm pistols were sent to the scene.
The 33-year-old woman, who was at the time fleeing her husband at a neighbor’s house, was contacted upon arrival in the area. She told the authorities that the suspect had slapped her, broken a table, and threatened to murder her, which had made her from the residence.
The two ranks then proceeded to the victim’s home, when the furious suspect—Jermaine Haynes—left the house and rushed after the ranks. A struggle broke out, and during that struggle the suspect managed to disarm one of the ranks by holding onto his gun. Upon observing this, the other rank pulled out his service handgun and fired two shots, striking the suspect in the lower right thigh.
The suspect was restrained, taken into custody, and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was given medical attention while being watched over by the police.
