In an effort to promote “welfare and safety” in the war-torn nation, Qatar declared that it will provide $3 million to the office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.
The monies are intended to support programs aimed at enhancing the lives of children, residents impacted by violent conflicts, and the general populace of Ukraine, according to a statement released on Friday by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Additionally, the fund will help expand legal assistance and upgrade the infrastructure required to give the support needed for families affected by the conflict in Ukraine,” the ministry stated in a statement.
Additionally, the commissioner’s office and the ministry reaffirmed “their dedication to a world where each individual’s rights are protected and human dignity is respected.”
16 Ukrainian children who “had previously been forcibly deported” to Russia following its invasion of Ukraine in 2022, according to remarks made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier this week, are now recuperating in Qatar after being freed.
Zelenskyy said on Wednesday that the group’s release and reunion with their families was made possible by efforts by Qatar to mediate the return of several children who had been abducted throughout the 27-month conflict.
The president of Ukraine wrote on X, “I am deeply grateful to Qatar and personally to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for assisting Ukraine in this vital effort.”
