According to a new poll, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris leads her Republican opponent Donald Trump in three crucial battleground states that will be significant in the upcoming US election.
According to a poll conducted on Saturday by the New York Times and Siena College, voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin gave Harris 50% of the vote, while Trump received 46% of the vote in each state.
The results coincide with US President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race last month due to age and capacity to serve another term in office, which prompted Harris to begin her campaign for the White House only a few weeks prior.
Since formally launching her campaign, US Vice President Harris has garnered significant support from prominent Democratic lawmakers, donors, and members of the Democratic Party’s base, particularly young voters and people of color.
A fresh wave of enthusiasm for the Democratic ticket was also sparked by her choice this week to designate Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota as her running mate for vice president.
However, the Biden administration’s unwavering backing of Israel during the Gaza War has drawn criticism, particularly in Michigan, a crucial swing state with one of the biggest numbers of Arab Americans in the country.
At a Detroit event this week, a group of protestors who had stopped Harris to call for an end to the war were met with resistance.
Let me tell you something: if you want Donald Trump to win, say so. If not, I’m speaking,” she informed the protesters, eliciting harsh criticism from
progressives and Palestinian rights activists.
However, after seeing additional protests over Gaza, Harris modified her tone a few days later at a rally in Arizona on Friday.
“Every day, the president and I are working nonstop to complete the ceasefire agreement and release the prisoners. I appreciate your opinions, but let’s speak about the campaign in 2024 right now,” she remarked.
Proponents have pushed Harris to deviate from Biden’s unwavering backing of Israel, requesting, among other things, that she stop supplying the US ally with weaponry in the midst of the Gaza conflict.
Since joining the contest, Harris has also been subjected to a flurry of criticism from Trump, the 2024 Republican presidential nominee, as well as JD Vance, his running partner.
When questioned on Thursday about how he has changed his strategy in response to Harris’s fresh challenge, Trump maintained that he hasn’t.
During an over-an-hour-long Q&A session with reporters, Trump asserted that Harris and Walz were unqualified candidates who were already losing ground in the polls.
Still, he expressed regret that he would not be able to compete against Biden in the election, implying that the president was the victim of an illegal scheme to remove him from the top spot on the Democratic ticket.
The Harris-Walz campaign has been denounced by Trump’s campaign as “every American’s nightmare,” and the former president has personally criticized Harris’s racial origin and intelligence.
On Thursday, Trump informed reporters, “She’s not doing any news conferences.” “She is incapable of running a press conference. She lacks the intelligence to do a press conference.
