Judge Priscilla Chandra-Haniff of the High Court Friday morning convicted social media pundit Mikhail Rodrigues, popularly known as the “Guyanese Critic,” guilty of contempt of court but spared jail time.
After that, Rodrigues was fined $100,000, which he had to pay within seven days to avoid serving a three-day jail term. In addition, he consented to publicly apologize to the court.
Rodrigues was charged with contempt after he violated Section 4 of the Contempt of Court Act No. 26 of 2010, which forbids using any kind of recording equipment in court without authorization.
