Makola, the former star of the Orlando Pirates, is being sued by Polokwane City for making disparaging remarks in an interview with Arena Sports Show.
For former Orlando Pirates player Mpho Makola, it never rains but pours as Premier League team Polokwane City and its owner are suing him for R15 million for defamatory remarks.
Sunday World claims that Polokwane City and its owner are suing their former football player, who “lied” and claimed that the owner gave his team manager the order to give the players’ food he had purchased to the dogs as a form of discipline after a game was lost.
Last Monday, the club filed a complaint at the Johannesburg High Court. According to verified sources, Mpho Makola made the scathing accusations last month during his interview on Arena Sports Show.
The celebrity disclosed in the interview that the purported event took place following Polokwane City’s defeat versus Hungry Lions in Kimberley.
Last year, Mpho Makola, who stormed out of the club, said that the manager had given the administrative staff the order to take the food he had purchased for the players and feed his dogs on his farm.
According to the former midfield player for the Orlando Pirates, the club owner instructed the manager to feed his dogs on his Limpopo farm instead of the players.
“When I heard this, I didn’t want to know what happened—did they really do it or not?” stated Mpho Makola.
“It seems like those are the kinds of things they do at that team, so I actually lost respect for that person and those people in the bus who work with him.”
Mogaladi and Polokwane City, however, assert that the comments were untrue and inaccurate. For that reason, they have taken Mpho Makola to court.
According to the complainants, he made the remarks with the intention of harming their reputations and defaming them.
Polokwane City, however, also requested a directive compelling Makola to issue an apology and recant his remarks. According to the club owner, the comments were directed at both the club and him.
The second plaintiff has incurred reputational harm and damages of R7.500.000.00 as a result of the defamation.
They did, however, disclose that Mpho Makola’s remarks also seemed to imply that the club was acting violently, abusively, and inhumanely.
“It mistreats Polokwane City FC football players, who receive worse treatment than dogs. The documents stated that “(The club) lacks professional and ethical integrity.”
Verified reports, however, indicate that the club has suffered damages totaling more than R7.5 million as a result of the false statements.
