After their recent improvement in performance, which saw them win 4-1 against Sheffield United on Saturday, Vincent Kompany says his Burnley team will keep fighting to try to make it to the last day of their relegation battle. The Clarets have now lost only one of their previous seven games.
With just four games left, Burnley’s current winning streak is not only by far their best of the season, but it has also given them newfound optimism for survival.
Kompany’s team might have an intriguing matchup with Nottingham Forest on the last day if they can win their next three games against Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham.
Now that Burnley seems to be gaining confidence and traction at the ideal moment, Kompany can only hope his team stays in contact.
“You have to do it yourself and we’ve done that, I don’t think you start having confidence because you have a result,” he remarked.
“You know, we’ve only lost one of our seven games. Even though we haven’t had much luck lately in many games, it’s not too much. All we require is an opportunity.
“It’s an opportunity to fight for it; we won’t ask for anything more. After that, we’ll play fearlessly and give it our all, just like we always do.” We’re going to be bold and try to get lucky in the boxes.
Chris Wilder, Kompany’s manager, conceded defeat in Sheffield United’s own relegation struggle in remarks made following the match.
In contrast, Burnley has been written off numerous times during the campaign, but they are still in it.
Kompany responded, “Especially for Burnley, for us, it’s always a scenario we know is possible, especially in our first year up that we’re going to have to fight,” when asked how much pride that gives him.
We don’t really need anything more than that, but hopefully we can make it through to the conclusion.
“Our main goal is to demonstrate that we can play fearlessly, maintain our momentum, and wait for the right opportunity to step up. Not much more than that, really.
