A top Italian official announced on Thursday that the body of British IT magnate Mike Lynch had been recovered from the debris of his family yacht, which sank this week off the coast of Sicily during a strong storm.
Hannah, Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter, is still missing, Interior Ministry official Massimo Mariani told Reuters following an emergency services briefing.
Shortly after severe weather hit early on Monday, the British-flagged 56- meter (184-foot) superyacht Bayesian, carrying 22 passengers and crew, vanished beneath the waters off the port of Porticello, close to Palermo.
One of the most well-known IT entrepreneurs in the UK, Lynch,59, invited pals to join him on the yacht to celebrate his acquittal in a U.S. fraud trial in June.
Fifteen people, including Angela Bacares, Lynch’s wife and the owner of the Bayesian, are thought to have survived the accident, leaving seven people dead.
Italian authorities declared on Wednesday that they had recovered the bodies of Christopher Morvillo of Clifford Chance and Jonathan Bloomer, non-executive head of Morgan Stanley International, along with their spouses, Judy Bloomer and Neda Morvillo.
On Monday, the corpse of Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian-Antiguan national working as the ship’s chef, was found close to the disaster.
Mariani stated that Hannah Lynch’s body might not have been on the boat but rather washed out to sea.
The body of the woman is laying on its side at a depth of 50 meters (165 feet) and is not easily accessible for divers to reach. According to fire department spokesperson Luca Cari, if her body is still inside the yacht, it may take some time to find.

An official legal inquiry into the mishap has been launched. Experts in naval and marine engineering believe that a vessel such as the Italian luxury yacht Perini’s Bayesian ought to have weathered the storm.
