The National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) has come under fire from former auditor general Anand Goolsarran for what appears to be its involvement in a situation that could create a conflict of interest. This is because investigations into claims of financial impropriety against Deputy Commissioner (ag) of Police Calvin Brutus have also brought his wife’s alleged company under investigation.
“Media reports indicate that the officer’s wife set up a company about a year ago, which company became one of the suppliers of the Police Force with full knowledge of senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs,” Goolsarran wrote in his weekly “Accountability Watch” column that was published in the Stabroek News today, without naming Brutus. “The Public Procurement Commission should also be involved in the investigation in keeping with its mandate,” Goolsarran continued.
