Authorities in Guyana, a South American nation, report that they have apprehended over 8,000 pounds of cocaine that was discovered close to the Venezuelan border.
Security Minister Robeson Benn told reporters he believes the narcotics are worth the equivalent of £152 million, making the land seizure the largest in recent memory.
According to authorities, the drugs were discovered in clay pits in the northwest of Guyana.
While they indicated they were searching for two other suspects who had left the scene, police only detained one.
The US Drug Enforcement Administration is said to have collaborated with Guyana’s military and police forces in the operation.
“We are happy that the DEA is with us sharing information and intelligence,” Mr. Benn stated.
The victim of this illicit conduct is Guyana. Cocaine is not something we make or transport.
The drugs were taken from a jungle location where authorities had previously discovered homemade submersible boats concealed.
