Georgia’s capital To make it easier for people to register for a $100,000 one-time cash grant, the Guyana government is creating a smartphone application. During his weekly press conference, Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo stated that the Ministry of Finance and other organizations are now working on and testing the app. Users will need to enter their name, address, phone number, passport or ID number, and other required areas in the application. A geolocator function will also guarantee that qualified people are in Guyana.
According to Dr. Jagdeo, Guyanese living abroad are eligible for the grant as long as they are physically present in Guyana to accept the funds and have a local passport or National Identification Card. To be eligible, a person must register in Guyana; the award will not be paid elsewhere. For Guyanese citizens living in coastal areas, the $100,000 cash grant will be given to each adult in the form of a check. Prior to the checks being provided, verification will be carried out.
A distinct approach will be put in place in places with limited access to banks, especially the hinterland, to guarantee that the grant distribution procedure is closely examined. The Vice President underlined how crucial transparency and accountability are to this endeavor. As with the Ministry of Education’s ‘Because We Care’ cash grant given to school-age children, the Auditor General’s Office will be involved in overseeing the process in order to achieve this.
The government’s larger initiatives to offer financial assistance to its inhabitants include the creation of the mobile application and the complete grant distribution procedure. The project seeks to guarantee the effective and transparent distribution of the grant to all qualified individuals. Guyanese have been quite interested in Dr. Jagdeo’s declaration, especially those who live overseas who are eager to seize the chance.
The government’s determination to assist all of its citizens, wherever they may be, is demonstrated by its decision to include Guyanese living abroad in this award program. Nonetheless, the grant’s condition of actual presence in Guyana guarantees a safe and regulated distribution of the money.
